Created by richard danne, the logo was honored in 1984 by president reagan for its simplistic, yet innovative design. There's a good chance you'll see the logo featured in other official ways on the mission and in the future, says nasa on its website announcement, entitled 'the worm is back'.
That logo, which consisted of the word nasa in a unique type style, was nicknamed the worm. Known as the nasa logotype, and nicknamed the ‘worm’, the logotype was introduced in 1975 in an attempt to introduce a touch of modernity by replacing nasa’s circular blue, white and red insignia (aka the ‘meatball’), that james modarelli had.
